Although one might think we messed things up in the headline, we didn't. Amazon, the leading world wide e-tailer, is reportedly getting ready to launch its own application store for the Android operating system. For the time being, it seems that details on the new application store are rather scarce, but things are shaping up in the form of a new Android app store.

Following the launch of the Android Market, which was made available for access when the first Android-based device launched on shelves, some more software portals aimed at Google's mobile OS emerged, including a Verizon V Cast app store, and the said Amazon portal.

According to a recent article on TechCrunch, the info that leaked about Amazon's plans for the area is rather interesting, at least when it comes to payments.

Here are some of the details the news site reports on:

- For each sale of an App, we will pay you a royalty equal to the greater of 70% of the purchase price or 20% of the List Price as of the purchase date (70/30 is standard, this 20/80 split is somewhat odd and confusing) - The List Price is apparently in place so that you can’t sell your app cheaper on other “similar services” - meaning other app stores, presumably - The “similar services” should also include the forthcoming Chrome Web Store, if I’m reading this correctly - There is a $99 fee to be a developer in this program (the same as Apple’s iOS developer program)

However, other rules are also set to be put in place when the app store goes online, including the fact that developers would have to update the app version available on the Amazon store at the same time with other flavor of the solution, provided that they offer an app on multiple platforms.

At the same time, it seems that Amazon will have the right to pull off any application from the store, that it would allow for free apps to be included in the portal, and that the software solutions would be shown on amazon.com.

The applications will work only on handsets they approve, as they will come with Amazon DRM, and will be made available only for US users for the time being.

Although the info suggests that Amazon is nearing the day when its Android app store becomes official, we'll still have to wait for official details to be unveiled, so stay tuned.
