Google may still have some issues to fix in the build

We reported a few days ago that Google was about to release the long-awaited Android 5.1 Lollipop update to Nexus devices later this week, but that has not happened yet.

With just one more day left, it's highly unlikely this will happen, but there's still a small chance Google will release Android 5.1 Lollipop to select a few, on Sunday.

According to the source of the initial report, Arem Russakovskii, Google might have delayed the rollout of Android 5.1 Lollipop to Nexus devices for early next week.

The reasons are unknown, but it might have something to do with Apple's Watch event, which is scheduled for Monday, March 9. Perhaps Google plans to overshadow Apple's launch even with its own release of Android 5.1 Lollipop, though this will only be possible in a very small measure.

Another reason might be the fact that Google still hasn't managed to address the battery issues with Android 5.1 Lollipop and needs extra time to fix it.

The good news is the Nexus download page has been recently updated, along with the drivers page, so it's clear that Google is preparing for a major release, which might happen in the next couple of days.

In addition, T-Mobile USA updated the pages for Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 5, which is another hint that Android 5.1 Lollipop might be just around the corner.

Google might have postponed the update at the last minute

One other piece of information that we got is that Android 5.1 Lollipop will come with API level 22, which is a bump from the previous versions.

The fact that official pages for these Nexus devices have already been updated but nothing has changed yet might point to the fact that it was a last-minute delay for whatever reason.

The previous report also claims the Nexus 7 (2013) might be the first device to receive Android 5.1 Lollipop, though we believe a few of them will receive it at the same time.

Here is hoping Google releases Android 5.1 Lollipop for Nexus devices sooner rather than later, as these smartphones and tablets really need the bug fixes and stability improvements.
