Now that Apple's event is over, Google is preparing to launch its next major update for Android 5.0 Lollipop. The update was rumored to arrive in the first half of March, but no details on the exact release date have been shared by Google yet.

However, insiders with knowledge of Google software update plans stated last week that Android 5.1 Lollipop would be rolled out to Nexus devices very soon. After a small delay of a few days, it appears that Google is now ready to deploy the highly anticipated Lollipop 5.1 update.

The information has just been confirmed by US-based carrier T-Mobile, which has updated the software documents webpage for Nexus 4, 5 and 7 (2013) with new details.

The update is only available via Wi-Fi network

According to these documents, beginning March 9, the Google Nexus 4, 5 and 7 (2013) will receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. The upgrade will be pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, but it will only be available via Wi-Fi.

Those who prefer to download their updates over cellular network will have to wait a bit longer, as T-Mobile has announced that it will be available at a later date.

T-Mobile doesn't provide too many details on Android 5.1 Lollipop changes, but the release notes confirm that they will bring software stability and various bug fixes.

Still, we do know from previous reports that Android 5.1 Lollipop will bring some improvements and new features as well, such as the option to change Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections from the Quick Settings menu, along with the “Until Next Alarm” option in volume interruptions menu.

Obviously, T-Mobile's Nexus 4, 5 and 7 (2013) won't be the only devices to receive Android 5.1 Lollipop later today. We expect the unlocked Nexus devices to start getting the update today as well, but stay tuned for more info on the matter.
