We currently don’t have the exact date for the rollout

Yesterday we told you told you that the Android 5.1 update received a confirmation on Google’s Android One official page in Indonesia.

Shortly after, a bunch of live photographs depicting Android One smartphones running Android 5.1 popped up online, suggesting such handsets have already started rolling out in the country.

The news followed an earlier report which claimed Android 5.1 would be upon us this February. Well, we are currently traversing this particular month, so it appears there’s a high chance the source was correct.

But, we don’t know much about what Android 5.1 will end up bringing to the table, because for the time being Google is mum about the update.

We do have a vague idea, because the older report provided us with some information. So here’s what we know so far.

What we think we know

The current hear-say claims that the new Android 5.1 update will add improved RAM / battery management and general system stability features.

On top of that, we’re going to see the new version fix issues related to sudden app closure, excessive consumption of network devices when Wi-Fi is in use, wireless connection difficulties, problems with OK Google function, notifications misbehaving and sound issues affecting particular devices.

More than that, Android 5.1 will add more options to the Material Design color palette.

We also know that the update will make it out to Nexus devices, but when that will happen exactly, we have no clue.

What we're hoping for

For the time being, we can’t tell you whether there will be any new functionalities in Android 5.1 but we can only dream.

Another important aspect many of us are hoping to see re-installed is the Silent Mode option, which has disappeared from Lollipop and has caused a lot of angst and frustration among users.

We’re expecting Android 5.1 to be a rather large update, so with it we should be able to see numerous changes, including the one we mentioned above.

Since Android 5.0 was rolled out into the wild, a lot of users have been complaining the new build brings about a lot of issues and some actually render the device useless. For example, some Nexus 4 owners have been complaining about constant dialer issues.

The problem is that once someone tries to access the entire dialer interface, he/she is confronted with a pretty bad lag. Even more, owners are reporting they are unable to hear what the person at the other end of line is saying.

So hopefully, the Android 5.1 version will come to patch up these problems and also add many more goodies.
