A new important software update might be soon upon us

After three months since its release, Android 5.0 (and its variants 5.0.1 and 5.0.2) hasn’t made its way on that many devices.

But as more and more device manufacturers (such as Samsung and HTC) start offering the new build to their flagship models, the adoption rate will hopefully pick up.

Anyway, you might remember that back in December we told you that Android 5.1 was already in development and will be upon us as soon as February 2015.

Android 5.1 is confirmed in Indonesia

Well, it appears that the report was pretty accurate and even though Android 5.1 has not yet started rolling out to any devices, we’re seeing it make a comeback into the news.

Google might be mum about Android 5.1 for the time being, but the build was spotted on the Android One website in Indonesia. It was part of the specification list of phones which make up this budget lineup.

The fact that Android 5.1 is not far from release is also confirmed by a bunch of images showing Android One phones running this particular build (as seen at Android Police).

From the image we can only draw one conclusion: Android 5.1 is real and is shipping out with Android One devices in Indonesia.

What’s more, Nexus devices will be getting it too (including Nexus 5, Nexus and Nexus 9) we just don’t know when exactly.

What should we expect Android 5.1 to bring? For the time being, we don’t really know much about the improvements it bestows, so we will have to take a look at the previous rumor.

Here are a few possible improvements

According to what was said in the past, Android 5.1 will add improved RAM / battery management and general system stability features.

The new software version will come to fix sudden app closures, excessive consumption of network devices when Wi-Fi is in use, wireless connection difficulties, problems with OK Google function, notifications misbehaving and sound issues affecting select devices.

Moreover, Android 5.1 will slip in changes in the Material Design color palette. We’re yet to find out if there are any all-new functionalities, but as Android One devices with 5.1 version start shipping out to customers, we might see reports that specify whether this is the case or not.

Anyway, hold on tight as we might see Android 5.1 start rolling out into the wild soon enough.
