14 DAY TRIAL // T-Mobile was the only carrier in the US that pushed the Android 5.1.1 update for its Galaxy S6 edge a few days ago, which was pretty bizarre, given that other mobile operators didn't do the same.
However, we’re now hearing that the update was actually an unfinished version which got released into the wild by mistake, and T-Mobile halted the rollout.
Apparently, Samsung still has some work to do before actually delivering Android 5.1.1 to its most priced devices to date. And the folks at Sam Mobile have managed to dig up some info according to which the new update will bring a bunch of extra camera features to the two flagships.
The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge already have some of the best cameras to date, but it looks like Samsung thinks it can do even better, so it’s packing the update with some pretty major improvements.
Sadly, the sources talking to the publication weren't able to say anything in particular about the new functions.
Possible improvements to be added with the new update
A big possibility is that the update will come with support for the full Google camera API on Lollipop, which would enable features like RAW shooting and the possibility to control shutter speed.
These options are not currently available on Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. On the other hand, the HTC One M9 and LG G4 both take advantage of these features, so obviously Samsung needs to catch up.
More than that, it has been revealed that this specific camera update will be present in upcoming devices Samsung will put on the market at a later date. The Samsung Zen/Samsung Noble names were given.
These monikers surfaced a few days ago. Noble is a codename for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, which is poised to be revealed at IFA 2015 - a consumer electronics event which takes place in Berlin during the month of September.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has already emerged in the rumor mill several times, reports revealing that the phablet might arrive with a 4K display with 2160 x 3840 pixel resolution and a record 748ppi.
Now it looks like the device will also take advantage of advanced camera functions.
