The first screenshot of the update leaked yesterday

It looks like Sony Xperia Z is about to receive the long-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update sometime this week. The announcement doesn't come as a surprise, since we already reported yesterday on the first Xperia Z Lollipop screenshot that leaked online.

Still, it's nice to know that Xperia Z owners won't have to wait a few more week to get the update, as we originally thought. Apparently, this will be the last Xperia Z series handset to be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Sony has already pushed updates to Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and other Xperia smartphones. The Japanese company made a list of less than 10 smartphones that will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop, and the Xperia Z is the last one on the list that has not gotten it yet.

According to Sony Philippines, Android 5.0 Lollipop should arrive “by next week.” In fact, the update will start rolling out by next week, which means that it might take at least several days, if not more, to reach all Xperia Z owners.

The update should bring many new features and improvements

It's also worth mentioning that the update will only be available for unlocked Xperia Z units. Sadly, we know nothing about any carrier-branded Xperia Z devices, but we imagine that they will be released soon after.

In the same piece of news, a well-known Sony leaker confirms that Android 5.0 Lollipop update release date is closer to end of next week, which lines up with Sony Philippines' statement from earlier.

We doubt that Sony will announce it when they decide to kick off the rollout of Android 5.0 Lollipop, but they should hint at it using the social network channels.

We will keep an eye out for any additional details on the matter and will update the piece of news, so if you're an Xperia Z owner, stay tuned.
