Good news for owners of NVIDIA’s gaming tablet

Immediately after the Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 launched as the first products to come equipped with Google’s latest Android 5.0 Lollipop, NVIDIA stepped out to talk about the update.

It had good news for the owners of the NVIDIA Shield Tablet, which were told they would be getting a taste of Lollipop sweetness soon. But the company’s Tweet was semi-mysterious in the sense that it did not reveal when exactly that was bound to happen.

Android 5.0 Lollipop comes to NVIDIA Shield Tablet this month

Well, according to a new YouTube video giving us a sneak peek into what Lollipop will look like on the tablet, NVIDIA will be ready to start rolling out the OTA Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its Shield device by the end of this very month! (as seen at Android Police).

This is excellent news, especially since traditionally OEMs seem to be taking their sweet time while software updates are concerned.

Well, it appears that a few device makers are looking to push the limits and wow users by being among the first out with the update.

In the video, you get to see clearly how Lollipop runs on the Shield Tablet and the November date is mentioned more than one time, so we can be pretty confident the roll out will happen soon.

It’s interesting to point out that the tablet shown in the video is of an LTE variety (check out the signal bars shown in the top right).

Traditionally, Wi-Fi models are the first to get software updates, while LTE models are left with a bit of a wait on their hands. But it appears NVIDIA might be pushing out both updates at the same time.

At some point, the company was reported to be planning to offer the same update to its first tablet product, the Tegra Note 7, but the video is silent on this matter.

It’s no wonder NVIDIA is one of the first companies to push out the Android update for its products, given the chip maker’s recently-developed close working relations with Google. NVIDIA is supplying the Tegra K1 Denver platform that is powering the Nexus 9 tablet and Google’s Project Tango 3D tablet.

Sony will also offer Android 5.0 Lollipop for its tablets among the first

Another device maker that has announced it will be bringing Android 5.0 Lollipop to its recent set of tablets, including the Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z2 Tablet and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, is Sony.

Interestingly, just a day before, Sony pushed out the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for its Xperia Z2 Tablet, so Sony is preparing the stage for the rollout of the next software update.

The company hasn't mentioned at this time when the new build will start being available for customers, but we’ll keep you posted when the news becomes available.
