The company still has no clue when the update is ready

Dell launched a new tablet back in January, the Venue 8 7840. The slate was initially announced last year in October, but the company needed a few months to make it available on the market.

Although the tablet is quite affordable and features decent specs, Dell has decided that it's not worth going the extra mile and put Android 5.0 Lollipop inside, instead of Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

However, those who purchase the tablet with KitKat onboard were promised they will receive an Android 5.0 Lollipop update sometime in February.

Basically, that meant that Dell wasn't able to launch the Venue 8 7840 with Android 5.0 Lollipop right out of the box, but it would be capable enough to provide users with an upgrade just one month after release.

Well, we're almost four months after the tablet's release and the promised Lollipop update is still nowhere to be seen.

As mentioned earlier, the company promised the Venue 8 7840 would get Android 5.0 Lollipop in February, but when the time has come for them to release the promised update, they offered users some excuses and said it would come in March.

No more deadlines, just “coming soon”

A one month delay isn't so bad for those who just got their tablets for less than a month, but when March has come and gone and Dell still didn't deliver the update, things got heated.

Many customers took it to Dell's forums to ask the company what happened with the update and when exactly it will be available since they have missed the March deadline.

When they finally got an answer, they were told that the update is now expected to arrive in later April. Obviously, since we're already one week in May, Dell missed the third deadline as well.

Now, the only official answer is that the update is still in the works and that it will be available as soon as possible, “Dell is working hard in resolving any issues with Lollipop and getting the update out as soon as possible.

“I don't have specifics on the technical issues that is causing the delays and currently there are still no ETA when the Lollipop update will be released. I will continue to monitor this and I will post any updates as soon as I receive them.”
