The Android 5.0 Lollipop update has already started rolling out a bunch of handsets and more are expected to receive it during the early months of 2015.

Whether you’re holding on to an HTC One M7 or One M8 smartphone, the good news is that you won’t have to wait later than January 3 to get a taste of Lollipop.

HTC One M7 and M8 to get Lollipop soon

The folks of Tech Tastic have received information according to which you should be marking the date above in your calendar if you own any of the two handsets we mentioned.

While we’re waiting for the Android 5.0 Lollipop to arrive on the HTC One M7 and One M8, you should know that the Google Play Editions for both devices have already been updated.

Anyway, HTC has promised to update its flagships within 90 days of receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop source code from Google, which was released on November 3. If you make the calculations, it means early February is when the self-imposed deadline expires.

Luckily, it appears the update is ready ahead of schedule and you get to appreciate HTC’s efforts. Anyway, it appears HTC confirmed the January 3 date at a closed event that was held in London and several other sources have backed up the info.

With Lollipop in the pipeline, HTC should also release a new Material Design-inspired HTC Sense interface and that’s exactly what the company is planning for you all.

We also get a few screenshots of a test Lollipop version running on the HTC One (M8) with the purported HTC Sense Interface plastered on top.

They look pretty neat and the thought that the update will arrive in a few weeks certainly makes things a lot more exciting.

Some HTC One M8 and M7 models hit by a strange problem

Anyway, just yesterday we were telling you some HTC One M8 and M7 handsets have been plagued by a peculiar issue, as they owners are faced with the impossibility of placing a voice call.

Users affected by the troubles are describing a situation where both caller and receiver can’t even hear a dial tone when trying to make a phone call.

It appears the issues started happening after the handsets were updated to the latest HTC Service Pack. The new software apparently contains code that goes head to head with Google’s Services framework, so the result is that these devices are unable to carry out their most basic function.

No official fix has been provided by HTC, so we recommend that you skip the update. Also, something more interesting appears to be on the horizon, anyway.
