Nexus 4 and 5 are the only smartphones Google confirmed it would upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop, along with a few tablets that were launched in the last two years.

Since the Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout for Nexus 5 started last week, Nexus 4 owners have been expecting news on when their smartphones will receive the highly anticipated update.

Well, without any announcements, Google published the Android 5.0 Lollipop factory image for Nexus 4 on its official support website over the weekend. However, there was no news on the OTA update, which is supposed to arrive along with the factory image.

The good news is people have started to report they have received the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA update on their Nexus 4 units, a few days after the factory image became available for download.

Still, considering this is a stage rollout, it may take up to 3 weeks until all Nexus 4 owners should receive the update if Google continues the deployment in the days to come.

Reddit user crazymonke159 recently posted a screenshot taken from its Nexus 4 smartphone, which proves Google has already kicked off the rollout of Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade.

Lollipop update for Nexus 4 requires 500MB of storage

The update is about 500MB in size, so make sure you have enough space on you Nexus 4 before attempting to update to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

It’s also recommended that you download the update via Wi-Fi network rather than use your carrier’s GSM network. Keep in mind that your phone’s battery needs to be at least 50% charged before attempting to upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Those still out of the loop may want to know that Android 5.0 Lollipop is one of the most important updates Google has pushed to smartphones and tablets since the company launched the operating system.

The most obvious change will be Material Design UI, which gives Android smartphones with Lollipop a fresh new look on the inside.

But that is not all, as lots of under-the-hood improvements have been included in the updates as well, which will increase the phone’s performance. New features and tweaks are a big part of the upgrade too, along with improved notifications and more privacy options.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is expected to arrive on a decent number of smartphones made by other handset manufacturers in the next couple of months. Hopefully, most flagship smartphones would have received the Lollipop update by the end of the year, though it’s hard to get any specifics yet.
