More device makers are announcing the advent of Lollipop

It hasn’t been long since Google rolled out Android 5.0 Lollipop and the first device manufacturers have already started announcing they have planed of bringing Material Design to their product slew.

For the time being, the first tablet to come with Android 5.0 is the recently unveiled Nexus 9, which takes advantage of the NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor.

Anyway, the latest company to take the reins and claim it will bring the Lollipop to its tablets is Sony. Good news for owners of the Xperia pack of slates, your devices will get a taste of Android’s latest sugar madness.

The roll-out will include the Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z2 Tablet and the recently unveiled Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

On top of the tablets, Sony will naturally put Lollipop on top of its Xperia slew of smartphones. Of course the Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition will get it first, as it always happens.

Sony didn't exactly say when the big roll out would start to happen, but we’ll update you as soon as that information becomes available to us.

It’s quite exciting to see how more and more companies are stepping up and announcing their intention to bring Material Design to their products.

All Nexus tablets will be getting Android 5.0

Yesterday, we received a piece of good news. Google confirmed all Nexus devices in the lineup would be getting the Lollipop treatment, even if some voices raised concerns weather some products in the family might be too old to get the Android 5.0.

But this didn't turn out to be the case and all Nexus tablets, including the 2012 and 2013 Nexus 7 plus Nexus 10 will soon be the recipients of Android’s latest.

As you may know, Nexus products are usually the first to receive Google’s latest software update, so since the rumor mill says Android 5.0 will make it into the wild somewhere around the beginning of November, we could expect the update for the Nexus family to arrive in the upcoming weeks. Keeping our fingers crossed!

NVIDIA Shield Tablet will be updated to the new Android version too

Also yesterday, NVIDIA made an official announcement saying that their Shield Tablet will also get the Lollipop treatment soon enough. Like the Nexus 9, the Shield takes advantage of the Tegra K1 platform, but of the 32-bit variety and not 64-bit.

It’s natural that NVIDIA is one of the first companies to make an announcement, since its working relationship with the search giant has been straightened recently, as the chip maker is powering Google’s latest flagship tablet, as well as the Project Tango slate.
