ASUS has officially announced the update roadmap

ASUS launched the ZenFone 4, 5 and 6 smartphones last year during the spring. They are all worthy handsets, but their caveat is that they are not up to date in terms of software.

ASUS is one of those device makers that don’t really hurry to pick up a new update when it becomes available. By contrast, manufacturers such as Motorola are quicker to update their models to the latest software standard.

When the ZenFone models we mentioned above were released last year, they arrived with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS on board out of the box.

However, a recent report would have us believe that ASUS is currently testing the Android 5.0 Lollipop for the ZenFone 4, 5 and 6 with a number of select users who previously registered for the beta testing.

These users have been especially selected by ASUS to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on their handset and to offer feedback related to its performance.

When is your ZenFone getting Lollipop?

If you are wondering when the company will start offering the Lollipop update to its wider customer base, the good news is that ASUS has just revealed the roadmap shedding light on its plans.

Apparently, the phone maker had originally planned to roll out Lollipop for the ZenFone 4 (A400CG/A450CG), 5 (A500KL/A500CG) and 6 (A600CG) and for the PadFone S (PF500KL) by the end of April.

However, the verification process has taken longer than expected, so ASUS was forced to delay things a little bit. But don’t worry, as the difference isn’t of great length.

According to the timetable posted by the company itself, the ZenFone 5 (LTE) will start receiving Lollipop during the beginning of May. As for the ZenFone 4, 5 and 6, the update will be pushed onto them in mid-May. Last but not least, the PadFone S will get the Lollipop treatment towards the beginning of June.

The updates will go out in OTA form (over-the-air), so you should receive a notification on your phone when the new build becomes available.

Android 5.0 is the second major update to which the ASUS ZenFone lineup will be subjected, as the phones received Android 4.4 KitKat a while back.
