LG’s mid-range tablet bunch is getting some Lollipop love

Once a new Android version gets pushed into the wild, device manufacturers usually have the tendency to pick up the update and offer it to their flagship handsets, in the first instance.

That’s why five months after Lollipop was rolled out into the wild, we can’t say we've seen a lot of tablets get updated. Sure, the Nexus 9 and other Nexus tablets are running Google’s latest, but apart from that, the prospects are quite grim.

However, things are slowly starting to defrost. NVIDIA was among the first to offer the Android 5.0 update for its gaming-orientated Shield Tablet, and Sony did the same with a bunch of its slates (including the super fun Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact) a few months later.

And yesterday, we got word that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 premium AMOLED tablet started to receive the Lollipop sweetness in territories like France and Canada, which indicates that the Korean tech giant plans on offering the update on a global scale.

As far as LG is concerned, although the device maker has been one of the first manufacturers to offer Lollipop to its flagship phone owners, it hasn't applied the same treatment to its tablet bunch.

LG will soon start updating its tablet lineup to Lollipop

This occurrence can be attributed to the fact that LG’s G Pad lineup is not of the premium kind, so we’re pretty excited to see that the Korean phone maker hasn't forgotten about it altogether.

This week, LG has announced on its official layer that it is beginning the Lollipop update rollout for its G Pad tablet series in South Korea.

The LG G Pad 8.0 will be the first device to be updated in the next few days, while the G Pad 7.0 and G Pad 10.1 will be hit later this month. The older LG G Pad 8.3 model has not been forgotten either, as Android 5.0 will make its way onto the slate in mid-April.

Since the update is currently offered only in South Korea, owners of the international variants of the G Pads still have to wait some time until they see it implemented on their respective devices. But the good news is that things have started moving.

The LG G Pad 8.0 is a tablet taking advantage of an 8-inch display with 800 x 1280 pixel resolution and a quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset on the inside. The other models bring similar specifications, the biggest difference being the form factor.
