Owners of OnePlus One smartphones, listen up. The Chinese device maker appears to have been quietly working on developing its own Android 5.0 Lollipop-based ROM for the iconic smartphone.

You probably heard that Cyanogen has signed an exclusive deal with Indian device maker Micromax, which prevents OnePlus from using this particular custom ROM anymore. So the company has announced it is developing its own ROM, which users will get to name.

Anyway, as we’re waiting on that, we’re happy to report OnePlus has rolled out an alpha build of the Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM on its forums and if you want it, you can go ahead and download it right now.

Stock Android Lollipop experience gets ported to OnePlus One

According to users who have installed the ROM on their handsets, the result is an almost stock Android Lollipop interface, the kind you’d get if you had a Nexus device at your disposal.

However, there are a bunch of extra feats to watch out, for like the ability to add either onscreen or physical navigation buttons.

Be warned this is an alpha build, so you’re bound to encounter bugs and what not. But if you’re courageous enough to try it, the forums have clear instructions on how to flash the ROM and safely get it to work.
