Mountain View-based Internet giant Google is reportedly gearing up for the launch of the next major flavor of the Android platform in the second quarter of the year.

The new OS release, supposedly called Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, has been spotted in a leaked roadmap from Qualcomm, and is expected to be made official at the Google I/O conference on May 15.

However, devices running under it might not arrive on shelves until the third quarter of the year, as Qualcomm will have chips ready for it only in the second half of 2013.

On the other hand, in Google’s old fashion, we might see the new platform release being pushed to existing Nexus handsets soon after the official unveiling.

For the time being, however, no specific info on what the new platform version should include has emerged.
