Motorola announced last week that it was preparing the Android 5.0 Lolliopop update for the first-generation Moto G smartphone, which would be made available in the coming weeks.

According to the company, “in order to receive it in the upcoming weeks” users should make sure that they have the latest version of Motorola Update Services. If they don't, then the update might not be available for them.

Today, we have new information that suggests that Motorola may have already started to roll our the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update for the first-generation Moto G.

MobileSyrup reports that some Canadian Moto G users have already started to receive the update on their smartphones. However, this seems to be some sort of soak test, so only select users will receive the update in the next few days.

The good news is that, if everything goes according to plan, those who still own the first-generation Motorola Moto G might get the update by the end of the month.

Obviously, it will take a bit more for carrier-branded Moto G units, but hopefully, not by much. It's also worth mentioning that the original Moto G will be upgraded directly to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, which is probably one of the reasons it took Motorola slightly more time to deliver this update.

Google will not validate any of the previous Lollipop updates, so each smartphone or tablet will receive Android 5.0.2 Lollipop after a certain date.

Android 5.1 is expected to arrive in March

In this regard, we've reported earlier today that Google is expected to release Android 5.1 Lollipop sometime next month.

The search giant has yet to confirm the information, but HTC has already announced that some of its update are tied with this maintenance release that's supposed to happen in March.

So there you have it, folks, just when Moto G (first generation) owners revel in happiness for getting their Lollipop update, Google will release a new version and the wait will start again.
