A bunch of mid-range phones from HTC are getting the update

Android 5.0 Lollipop has been out and about for more than half a year, but adoption has been relatively slow. Still, most major device manufacturers have picked up the new update and offered it to their flagship smartphones.

Others like Motorola have also unleashed the new build on non-flagship models, but this isn’t a common occurrence.

Anyway, HTC has rolled out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its One M8 and One M7 flagships, but now the time has come for other lesser models to get the same treatment.

HTC is keeping its promise

The company has been promising the update for mid-range models, and this week it is finally delivering on its promise. The device maker is currently offering Lollipop for the One E8, Desire EYE and Butterfly S. It’s interesting to note that the Butterfly S is a pretty old device that was released almost two years ago, in mid-2013.

HTC ROM developer LlabTooFeR is the one bringing us the news about the Desire EYE and Butterfly S, which, according to him, are receiving the Lollipop update in Taiwan, while the One E8 is getting it in Hong Kong.

The three models are getting updated directly to Android 5.0.2 thus skipping older versions. However, we should also note that the phones won’t be able to take advantage of the new Sense 7 UI. At least not for the time being. We don’t know why this is the case, but we’ll update you in case HTC says anything about it.

Google’s latest Android version is actually Lollipop 5.1, but the company has yet to push this particular update onto any device. We don’t even know if the phone maker has started the development of the new build or not.

The update is going out in select territories

Going back to the devices receiving Android 5.0.2 this week, you need to remember that updates like this are released in stages, so if you’re outside of Taiwan or Hong Kong, you'll probably still have a while to wait until you receive a notification that the update has arrived for your device.

In the US, the One E8 is available via Sprint, while the Desire EYE sells under AT&T.
