The original of the firmware seems to be Chinese

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update has already started rolling out for owners of the Samsung Galaxy S5 flagship; but what about Sammy’s other devices, you might wonder.

Sammy has been quite sketchy about providing the exact details of when it plans to roll out the Lollipop update for popular handsets such as the Galaxy S4 or the Galaxy Note 3.

At some point we heard the company was working towards bringing the Android 5.0.1 update directly on the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge, although no dates were thrown in the mix.

While Samsung Galaxy S4 owners have been eagerly awaiting the official Lollipop release, there might be a way to trick the system and get Android 5.0 right now.

Android 5.0.1 arrives on Galaxy S4

It appears the members of the xda-developers forum have stumbled upon what appears to be an official TouchWiz-enhanced Android 5.0.1 build for the 2013 Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S4.

According to reports on the forum, even if the firmware is of Chinese origin, the software appears to be the real deal.

The build seems to work quite well and all features including Wi-Fi, 3G/4F, NFC, Bluetooth and sensors appear to be working just fine.

On the downside of things, some system messages will probably pop up in Chinese, but this is something you will have to tolerate if you want Lollipop onboard of your Galaxy S4 now.

The build works with several variants of the Galaxy S4 including the GT-I9500, GT-I9502, GT-I9508 and GT-I9508v.

Note that the Snapdragon 600-enhanced model, the GT-I9505, has been left out for the time being.

So if you are done waiting for Lollipop to arrive on your Galaxy S4, now you have the option of installing this firmware.

However, Samsung will most likely roll out the official update pretty soon, so if you prefer to be on the safe side of things, you should probably wait for that.
