Android 4.4 KitKat, the next flavor of Google’s mobile operating system, is expected to pack a variety of new enhancements, including a brand new launcher, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

Apparently, Google has decided to include a so-called “Google Experience” launcher in the upcoming platform version, and it might also make it available for download through the Google Play Store, Android Police notes.

Provided that the rumor pans out, we’ll see the third version of the Android launcher brought to devices, and reference to it has already been found in leaked Android 4.4 code, it seems.

This means that KitKat will be one of the most significant Android releases to date, given that the Android team is heavily focused on ensuring that users receive a great experience from the platform.

Some of the enhancements that will be included in the new launcher have already appeared online, courtesy of leaked Android 4.4 screenshots spotted a few days ago, and the new report on the matter confirms them.

The navigation bar and the status bar will be transparent in the new release, though only in the launcher, it seems.

There will also be deep Google Search integration within the launcher, with one home screen being reserved for a permanent Google Search/Now screen. It will also show a one-touch button to set a reminder.

Android 4.4 will also come with a semi-transparent voice input prompt for Google Search, and will allow users to add numerous home screens to the five that are available in Android 4.3.

Furthermore, the OS will arrive with infinite App folders, which will scroll when more than 16 apps are added to them.

At the same time, KitKat will no longer allow users to access widgets from the app drawer, but through long-pressing on the home screen, or through the Settings menu.

Not all of these changes have been officially confirmed as of now, and chances are that they will not make it inside the final release, so don’t hold your breath waiting for them. More on the matter will be announced soon, so stay tuned to learn the news.
