LG G2 owners in Australia will be pleased to know that their wait for Android 4.4 KitKat is finally over. LG Australia has just announced that it has kicked off the rollout of the update, so G2 users should start receiving the update OTA (over the air).

Here is what Lambro Skropidis, general manager marketing at LG Electronics Australia, had to say about the recent release of the Android 4.4 KitKat update for G2:

“LG is constantly striving to improve the user experience for its mobile customers and the latest KitKat OS upgrade furthers our commitment to our Australian customers.

In addition to introducing new features, the KitKat OS upgrade for the LG G2 delivers a number of improvements that enhance the entire mobile user experience. We trust that our customers will enjoy the extra features offered by our latest upgrade package.”

In addition to the fact that all LG G2 units in Australia will receive the long-awaited update, AusDroid points out that LG has confirmed that customers who purchase the smartphone beginning this week will get it with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box.

Even though LG G2 was exclusively available in Australia via Optus, those who have purchased the unlocked version of the smartphone will also receive the update in the coming days.

For the time being, Optus customers are the only ones that have confirmed that they have been able to capture the update, but those with unlocked G2 units should check their devices for Android 4.4 KitKat as well.

Although LG Australia did not mention anything about the changes included, we know that Android 4.4 KitKat brings lots of important changes for the G2.

Among the most obvious would be the new and improved user interface, which features lots of enhancements, such as restyled status and navigation bars, as well as new full-screen mode, improved closed captioning support, and of course stronger security.

The update should also bring LG G2 owners an even better Knock One feature, which has been improved for increased responsiveness. Furthermore, the battery efficiency has been improved as well.

There’s also a new Printing in the Cloud feature, which allows users to print documents via Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth connection using Google Cloud Printer service.

Before attempting to update to Android 4.4 KitKat, make sure your battery is at least 50% charged, otherwise you won’t be able to download and install it. No backup is needed, but if you have important stuff on your device, we recommend making a backup.
