Samsung and Sprint are gearing up for the release of the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system update for another handset on the wireless carrier’s network, namely the Galaxy Note 3, and it appears that they might make the OS upgrade official shortly.

In fact, Samsung has already published the source code for the Android 4.4 KitKat firmware for the smartphone, which suggests that the official roll out might start as soon as today.

The kernel source can be found on Samsung’s Open Source website, where is it listed as an 892MB download. Developers will certainly appreciate it, as the source code will provide them with the possibility to start building custom ROMs for the handset, as Android Police notes.

The fact that Sprint’s Galaxy Note 3 will receive said update soon does not come too much as a surprise, following Samsung’s yesterday announcement on its KitKat deployment plans.
