Until Sony decides to announce more details on its Android 4.4 KitKat update schedule, those who own some of the company’s most powerful handsets can try out the new features offered by the recently announced platform by flashing custom ROMs.

The good folks at XDA Developers have already released Android 4.4 KitKat ROMs for LG Optimus G, Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Verizon model included), and now Sony Xperia Z gets the same treatment.

The new KitKat ROM for Sony Xperia Z was released by XDA Senior Member pabx and is quite decent, even though it’s still in beta stage.

As expected, the new build has been purely created from Android AOSP, so it doesn’t have root or recovery. To make things even better, some users have reported that this build has only a few minor bugs that do not affect the user’s interaction with the phone directly.

Those who wish to download and flash the new Android 4.4 KitKat ROM for Sony Xperia Z should head over to XDA Developers forum thread.
