Starting with May 5, the LG G Flex smartphone is receiving the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system update on the network of wireless carrier T-Mobile, the company has officially announced.

The new platform release has been available for the owners of LG G Flex handsets at other wireless carriers in the United States, but it seems that LG and its partners are finally ready to make it available to more devices.

The update will provide users not only with the usual set of features and improvements that Android 4.4.2 KitKat was announced with, but also with some other new features such as the Knock Code, T-Mobile has unveiled.

Additionally, the update features a series of improvements to the phone’s battery life, and also comes with stability fixes, it seems.

“Beginning May 5, the LG G Flex received a software update to Android KitKat 4.4./ D95920d. This update provides features and improvements,” T-Mobile announced on its support website.

What’s interesting to note is the fact that the new OS release is expected to land on handsets as Android 4.4.3 KitKat, which is the same OS version that was spotted at Sprint a while ago for the Nexus 5, but never arrived on the phone.

According to Android Police, however, given that Sprint’s LG G Flex has received the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update only about a week ago, chances are that T-Mobile listed the update as Android 4.4.3 by mistake.

The new OS release will be pushed to handsets over the air, which means that users will receive a notification as soon as it is available for their smartphones.

When that happens, they will be able to either kick off the download process right away, or to postpone it for a more suitable moment.

Before kicking off the update, users should make sure that the battery inside their phones has been charged at least at 50 percent. They will also need an available data connection, as well as 147 MB of available memory, T-Mobile explains.

Those who do not want to wait for the aforementioned notification to arrive can manually check on its availability, by going to System settings > General > About Phone > System updates and clicking on the Check now button.

To check on whether the new software release has been installed on the phone, users should head over to System settings > General > About Phone, and go to Software information. The software version displayed there should be D95920d.

Those of you who would like to learn more info on the new software update should head over to the wireless carrier’s support website for that.
