Starting today, owners of Motorola DROID ULTRA, DROID MINI, and DROID MAXX smartphones on the network of Verizon Wireless in the United States can download and install the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system version.

A few days ago, Motorola has announced a soak test for the update, but Verizon unveiled today that it has already started to deliver the new platform release to all owners of the aforementioned smartphones.

“Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update designed to improve the performance of your Motorola smartphones, the DROID ULTRA and DROID MAXX,” Verizon notes in a document on its support website.

In addition to providing users with all the benefits of the Android 4.4 KitKat OS upgrade, the new software release (available as version 12.7.7.OBAKE_VERIZON.VERIZON.EN.US) also includes a series of other enhancements, Verizon has announced.

Thus, users will enjoy improvements for ISIS Wallet, Group MMS message and the like when updating their smartphones, the aforementioned document unveils.

Moreover, the update will make available Wi-Fi reminders appear every 12 hours, instead of instead of every 30 minutes, as they do at the moment.

The new software is being pushed to users over-the-air, which means that a notification will pop up on DROID ULTRA and DROID MAXX handsets when the upgrade is available for download.

However, the rollout is a staged one, which means that it might take a while before all users will receive it, maybe several days or longer.

Those who do not want to wait for the notification can check on the availability of the update manually, through going to Settings > About phone > System updates > Download.

As soon as the updated platform version has been downloaded, simply hit the install now button and follow the on-screen prompts to have it loaded on your smartphones.
