Today, mobile phone carrier AT&T has officially confirmed that the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system update has been approved for its Samsung Galaxy Note 3 devices and that it is already available for download.

In addition to the features and improvements that the latest Android version has to deliver to users, the new firmware iteration also comes with various other enhancements inside, including some for the UI, phone dialer app, focus and exposure, and gallery apps.

The new software update will provide users with re-styled status and navigation bars, as well as with a brand new full-screen-immersive mode, with support for color emoji and with better closed captioning support, AT&T explains.

Moreover, the firmware offers stronger security and smarter power use and also provides users with the possibility to choose a default messaging app when having more than one messaging services installed.

The performance of the GPS has been improved too, and there is also better music access to enjoy, with full screen album art and media controls not present on the lock screen when listening to music.

Other changes in the new release include the presence of a camera icon on the lock screen, so that users can easily access the app, without having to unlock the smartphone for that.

The location menu has seen some modifications as well, now more integrated, providing users with the possibility to easily activate GPS and share location details.

The new Android 4.4 KitKat update for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 also brings along wireless printing capabilities, so that users can easily put documents on paper when needed, straight from the device.

Another enhancement included in the new firmware update is the presence of new sound controls, allowing users to easily set specific sounds for Samsung applications through the enhanced settings.

The new OS version will be released to AT&T’s Galaxy Note 3 devices over-the-air, and users will be notified when it is available for their specific units.

However, they can also go to Settings > More > About Device > Software Update to manually check on the availability of the software. Provided that the new firmware appears as available, users should simply follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

To ensure that the update process runs smoothly all the way, the battery inside Galaxy Note 3 should be charged at least at 50 percent. Users might also consider backing up their data before proceeding, just to make sure that no important files are lost during the installation.
