14 DAY TRIAL // Sony Xperia Z2 owners rejoice as the Japanese handset maker has just kicked off the rollout of the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for its previous flagship smartphone.
Although the smartphone was originally launched with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box, Sony confirmed the Xperia Z2 would be one of the first devices in its portfolio to receive the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
However, before that could be rolled out to Xperia Z2 devices, Sony released another major update that brings important new features and improvements.
Android 4.4.4 KitKat hasn’t been available on the Xperia Z2 since it was launched on the market several months ago, but beginning today the smartphone is eligible for this update.
According to the Japanese handset maker, the latest Sony User Experience upgrade based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat rolls out from today to all Xperia Z2 devices.
The first important new feature that has been included in this update is PS Remote Play. This feature is already available on the Xperia Z3 and Sony wanted to wait until early in the New Year to make it available for additional devices, but given the amount of positive feedback the company decided to roll out the update earlier.
Besides the PS4 Remote Play feature, the update also brings better audio. The Xperia Z2 will now support built-in Hi-Res Audio playback from both PCM and DSD files via 3.5mm audio jack.
Sony also confirmed that after applying the update Xperia Z2 owners would also get the company’s DSEE HX technology in the WALKMAN app, which enhanced the sound of MP3, AAC or Music Unlimited tunes.
The new Ultra STAMINA Mode for the battery has also been added
Moreover, the update adds a special option to specifically select optimized settings for different Sony headsets, which comes in handy given the fact that different headphones sound differently.
The new Smart Social Camera that has been included in the update will allow Xperia Z2 owners to enjoy the latest Xperia Camera apps such as Sound Photo, AR fun, Multi Camera and Face in.
But there’s more to it, as Sony also confirmed the update would add the newest Battery STAMINA Mode to the Xperia Z2 and brings Ultra STAMINA Mode, which should provide users with even more usage.
Lots of other improvements have been included in the update as well, such as Quick settings, Smart screen rotation and Record screen.
And another interesting new feature would be the fact that Xperia Z2 will now unlock when SmartBand, SmartBand Talk or SmartWatch 3is in close proximity via Bluetooth Unlock. The new feature will also work on any Sony Bluetooth accessories and headsets when you specifically set you phone to do that from Settings / Security.
