Owners of Moto X devices on the network of mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless can now download and install a new platform upgrade on their devices, in the form of Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

The new operating system version was said to arrive on Verizon Moto X a couple of weeks back, when Motorola started sending out invitations to a soak test, and when Moto G devices also started receiving it as part of the test program.

It appears that the testing phase went well nicely, and that Motorola and Verizon are finally ready to make the platform upgrade available for all Moto X devices out there.

As part of the new firmware refresh, users will receive a series of security fixes, just as all other phones updated to Android 4.4.4 KitKat did.

However, Motorola also decided to include some of its own improvements in the update, which means that users will enjoy a better overall phone experience following the installation of the new software.

According to the release notes published on Verizon’s support website, the new OS iteration arrives on smartphones with better camera capabilities and a new phone dialer app.

“Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce an operating system update to Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) that will improve the performance of your MOTO X by Motorola,” the carrier notes.

The new firmware arrives on devices as version 10.12.41.falcon_cdma.Verizon.en.US and will deliver better camera picture quality, especially in fluorescent lighting.

Moreover, the software will provide enhanced dynamic range, while also enabling users to pause video recording, courtesy of a pause/resume button on the camera viewfinder.

The phone dialer now features new graphical layout and colors, and should also deliver improved consistency and usability, the aforementioned release notes reveal.

Basically, this is the same software update that started to arrive on Verizon’s Moto G devices last week, and which is also rolling out to Motorola’s devices on other markets out there.

Verizon will deploy the new platform upgrade in stages, which means that some Moto X owners on its network will have to wait a bit longer before receiving it. Even so, we suspect that it will be delivered to all users in a matter of days, or a couple of weeks at the most.

The update will be pushed out over the air, and you will be notified on its arrival on your smartphones. However, you can also manually check on its availability, through heading to Settings > About Phone > Software updates.
