Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has started to deliver a new firmware update on its Xperia Z1 Compact handsets, providing users with the enhancements that the Android 4.4.4 KitKat platform release has to offer.

The new update is currently being pushed to the device in the form of firmware version 14.4.A.0.108 and has been already spotted in Russia, Italy and Indonesia.

No changelog for the update has been provided as of now, and we still don’t know what it will have to offer, though we suspect that it will only include the security enhancements that Google has already announced for this platform iteration.

As XperiaBlog notes, it’s a bit surprising that Sony Mobile has decided to start deploying this operating system version to the handset, though it seems that it might not be too long before it delivers it to other smartphones in its lineup as well.

In fact, the company is already preparing the update for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra, and has received certification for it, a listing on the PTCRB website shows.

Unfortunately, the Xperia Z1 Compact is the only Sony smartphone to have already started receiving the update, and it remains to be seen when exactly the company will kick off the rollout for other handsets as well. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
