We reported a few days ago that Verizon was likely to offer the long-awaited Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Samsung Galaxy S4 sometime in late May.

According to a leaked document, the carrier would start seeding the update on May 28. Aside from Galaxy S4, Verizon was said to offer the same KitKat upgrade for Galaxy S4 mini model on the same date.

However, it looks like the Big Red has just kicked off the rollout of the upgrade today, so Galaxy S4 owners should start checking their smartphones for KitKat.

According to AndroidPolice, many users have already reported that they have received the update, which brings lots of under the hood changes that further improve the smartphone's overall performance.

There are only minor visual changes included in this update, so don't expect a complete revamp of the TouchWiz UI like Samsung did for the Galaxy S5.

Unfortunately, it's unclear whether or not this is only a test where only a limited number of Galaxy S4 owners receive the update or it's being released for everyone.

Verizon has yet to publish the official changelog for Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Samsung Galaxy S4, and when it does, we will update this article. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.

Update: As promised, here is the official changelog (.pdf) as published by Verizon.
