Good news for Android fans that purchased the LG G Flex curved smartphone through AT&T’s official retail channels, as the carrier has announced that it will offer an Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade today, April 17.

“Effective 04/17/2014, AT&T released Android 4.4.2 (Kit Kat) software update for the LG G FLEX. AT&T customers will be able to download the update via FOTA (firmware over the air).”

According to the carrier, the major update has about 686MB in size and users will be required to download it via Wi-Fi connection.

LG G Flex owners will be automatically notified on their smartphones of the availability of the update. However, they can also manually check for it by going to Settings / General tab / About phone / Software update / Update now.

Make sure your phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network, otherwise the download of the update will not start. As soon as the update is installed, the LG G Flex will restart automatically.

In order to check if the update was installed successfully, you should go to the home screen, swipe down the notification bar and then tap the Settings icon. From the General tab, you will need to scroll down and tap About phone.

Click on Software information and the OS and Software versions should pop up on the display. The correct software version of this Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for LG G Flex is D95020b, while the kernel version is 3.4.0.

Aside from bringing the LG G Flex’s OS to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, this major update adds lots of new features and improvements. Most of these under the hood improvements are noticeable when browsing the phone’s menus. Everything is snappier and transitions from one home screen to another are much smoother.

But there is more to it. The official changelog published by AT&T mentions that the update will also bring a new full-screen mode and both status and navigation bars have been redesigned.

Some enhancements to battery performance have been included as well, along with improvements to the processing speed, as mentioned earlier.

The update will not delete any data from the LG G Flex, but we recommend users to back up any private data in order to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Have you captured the update yet? How well does your G Flex perform now?
