Shortly after Verizon Wireless announced that the long-awaited Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was available for download, another US-based carrier, AT&T, announced that the Galaxy Mega was eligible for the same update.

Samsung Galaxy Mega was released at AT&T exactly one year ago with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. Exactly one year after its launch, the Galaxy Mega finally receives the promised Android 4.4.2 KitKat update.

According to Samsung, Galaxy Mega owners should look for software version I527UCUBNE7, which will update their phones to Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

The update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, which means that it will take some time until it reaches all Galaxy Mega devices. Make sure your phone's battery is at least half charged before starting to download the update.

Those who have yet to receive the update may want to check for it manually by going to Settings / More / About device / Software update / Check for updates. If it's not available yet, you might want to try again later.

The official changelog for Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Samsung Galaxy Mega is huge, but here are some of the most important improvements that the new update brings.

First of all, the update brings support for secure NFC-based transactions through Host Card Emulation. In addition, Galaxy Mega owners will be able to add printing support to their apps or develop printing services to support certain types of printers.

Some applications like Beat Music and ISIS Wallet will be preloaded on the Galaxy Mega. The AT&T Drive Mode has been changed to Drive Mode.

As expected, the Camera shortcut now appears in the Lock screen as well. When users tap 7 times on Settings / More / About Device / Build number,” the phone will activate developer options menu.

Furthermore, there's a new storage access framework, which is supposed to make it simple for users to browse and open documents, images, and other files across all of their preferred document storage providers.

There's also a brand new full screen Immersive mode, along with system-wide settings for closed captioning : Settings / Accessibility / Google subtitles (CC) and Samsung subtitles (CC).

It is also worth mentioning that users can set preferred network & Automatic in security policy update from Setting / More / Security / Security update service.
