More good news for LG fans after AT&T kicked off the rollout of Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the G Flex yesterday. It appears that Verizon’s LG G2 is now eligible for a similar upgrade, though owners of the smartphone will not be notified of the update.

The folks over at Droid-Life report that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for LG G2 is only available for download via Software Upgrade Assistant. This is Verizon’s desktop software tool that allows users to update their smartphones via PC.

Unfortunately, if you own a Verizon LG G2 and a Mac, you won’t be able to upgrade to Android 4.4.2 KitKat until the update gets pushed OTA (over the air).

For the time being, Software Upgrade Assistant software is only compatible with Windows for LG phones, so there’s no way you can upgrade the G2 using a Mac.

One of the reasons for which Verizon and LG have decided to make the update available through this tool may be the fact that it weighs no less than 2GB, which is a considerable amount of data that would need to be downloaded over the air.

Verizon has yet to officially confirm the availability of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade for LG G2, but software build VS98024A has been spotted in Software Upgrade Assistant program, so you can go ahead and update as soon as possible.

However, if you own a Verizon-branded LG G2 in White, the update might not show on the Software Upgrade Assistant. There have been many reports from users that this particular version of G2 is not upgradeable yet.

It’s unclear on what basis LG and Verizon are rolling out this update for G2, but it might have something to do with the release date of that particular model.

Also, if you rooted your LG G2 and wish to update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat via Software Upgrade Assistant, you will lose the root. Still, you can root your phone again once the update is applied.

Given the fact that Verizon has yet to confirm the availability of the update, no official changelog for Android 4.4.2 KitKat for LG G2 has been published yet. We will keep an eye out for any other details that surface and will update this article.
