As expected, Verizon has just kicked off the rollout of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for HTC One max. The update was teased by HTC’s Mohammed Versi last week when the company’s official mentioned that the update had been approved by the carrier and that it would be available beginning early this week.

In the last couple of hours, there have been many reports coming from HTC One max owners who claim that they have captured the update.

AndroidPolice confirms the information as well, so Verizon customers who own the One max should start checking for Android 4.4.2 KitKat on their devices.

Keep in mind though that Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, so it will not be available for HTC One max devices at the same time.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat brings lots of new features and improvements to HTC One max devices. Although the smartphone will still remain on HTC Sense 5.5 UI, there’s a high chance that it will receive an upgrade to Sense 6.0 UI via an update in the coming months.

According to Verizon, software update 2.16.605.2 can now be downloaded using a Wi-Fi connection or via its network. Aside from the usual improvements included in Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, here are some other new features and enhancements specific to Verizon’s version of HTC One max.

First of all, Location settings have been redesigned for battery conservation and to make it easier to use. HTC has added a master switch that now allows users to turn all location settings on/off.

Location settings now list which apps are using location services and shows estimated battery use of each application. In addition, new settings have been included, which provides users with the option to choose between the following location profiles: High accuracy (most battery use), Battery saving (least battery use) and Device sensors (GPS only).

HTC has also confirmed that some issues with the One max have been addressed in this update. Apparently, Device Management will no longer run during OTA (over the air) download and the Bluetooth Car Kit for 2012 BMW X5 should now work properly. The same goes for Verizon app directed SMS feature.

The Taiwanese company also states that the Copy function icon on the top right of screen is finally operational and the notification light now indicates pending messages, emails and missed calls. The official changelog also mentions that the device will not re-download an update if OTA install is deferred.

Several improvements, other than those included in the Android 4.4.2 KitKat, have been added, such as the fact that OTA download via Wi-Fi is now supported, and the Power management requirements have been updated.

Last but not least, some carrier-specific apps and services are now preloaded on the HTC One max. As soon as the update is applied, HTC One max owners will get access to Verizon Cloud, Verizon Location Agent and Verizon Support and Protect (v2.0.0).
