HTC Desire 601 owners will be pleased to know that the Taiwanese handset maker has just kicked off the rollout of Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for this particular model.

According to GSMArena, HTC Singapore posted the announcement on its official Facebook account. The short post confirms that HTC has started to seed the highly anticipated upgrade for the Desire 601, but no additional details have been unveiled.

The update is likely to be pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, so not all HTC Desire 601 owners may be notified at the same time. If you live in Singapore, you should keep checking for the update manually if you don’t get a notification within the next few days.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling whether or not this is just a limited rollout with the sole purpose of testing the update in a closed environment.

Famous leaker LlabTooFer confirmed about two weeks ago that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Sense 5.5 for HTC Desire was ready to roll out, but it did not say which countries would get it.

Last month, HTC Desire 601 devices in Canada were upgraded to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but other than that, no other information on the update’s availability in other countries popped up online until today.

HTC Desire 601 owners in Singapore should expect to receive the Sense 5.5 UI along with the KitKat update. The Desire 601 was launched back in October 2013 with Sense 5.0 user interface onboard, so this is a small but important upgrade for those using the smartphone.

We’re not yet sure whether or not the rollout of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update also includes the dual-SIM version of Desire 601, but given the fact that HTC Singapore has released both models in the country, it’s highly possible.

Aside from the usual new features and improvements provided by Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the update also includes some unique enhancements added by HTC exclusively for its smartphones.

For example, the update will bring lots of other BlinkFeed options, but also some improvements to core apps such as camera and gallery.

The update has been confirmed to include a new Zoe feature, DnD (Do Not Disturb) option, more Quick Settings features, Scribble application and Video Highlights enhancements.

We suspect that this update will gradually roll out in other Asian countries as well, but we don’t have any confirmation yet. Have you captured the Android 4.4.2 KitKat on your Desire 601 yet? Share your experience with us in the comments.
