There has been much talk on DROID DNA’s promised Android 4.4 KitKat update, but as HTC has kept pushing the update back by several months, some have lost any hope and have switched to other devices.

Alas, it looks like the long-awaited Android 4.4 KitKat update for the DROID DNA is only a few days away. The information has just been confirmed by HTC’s Mohammed Versi, who has announced that his company has already received technical approval for the update.

The good news is that DROID DNA will not only receive a KitKat upgrade, but it will get the latest version of Android, namely KitKat 4.4.2.

Aside from that, the DROID DNA owners will be happy to know that they will also receive an update to HTC Sense 5.5 UI, which is an important upgrade from the previous version of Sense.

DROID DNA owners should expect Verizon and HTC to start seeding the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for their devices on April 24. This has been confirmed by Versi, though if anything wrong happens, the update might be delayed once again.

The international version of DROID DNA, the HTC Butterfly, is likely to get the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update as well, but for the moment, the Taiwanese handset make did not share any details on the availability of this upgrade.

One thing remains to be cleared up by HTC and that’s whether the DROID DNA will eventually receive an update to HTC Sense 6.0 UI, like all the One family of smartphones has.

HTC has recently published the status of the Sense 6.0 UI update for the compatible devices and the list only contains the HTC One (M7), One mini and One max.

However, some of the compatible devices may have been skipped from the list due to the fact that they have yet to be upgraded to KitKat, but this is just a speculation.

The Sense 6.0 UI is now in “integration” stage and it is likely to hit some of the smartphones on the list as early as next month. The DROID DNA is not among these devices, but at least it will be upgrade to Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

It is also worth mentioning that this will be the last major update that the DROID DNA will receive. This is an 18-month-old smartphone and per Google’s policy, it does not qualify for another major OS upgrade, so DROID DNA owners will want to think about switching to another device for the next important update launched by Google.
