South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has already started the delivery of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform upgrade to the owners of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 smartphones, after the firmware leaked online over the weekend.

The official platform release for the mobile phone comes as firmware version N9005XXUENA6, and it is currently available for the SM-N9005 version of Galaxy Note 3 in Poland.

The new OS upgrade is available for download only via the Samsung Kies desktop application, a recent article on SamMobile notes.

Although only Poland has got a taste of the update now, chances are that it won’t be long before all owners of Snapdragon 800-based Galaxy Note 3 devices will receive it.

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat build for the Galaxy Note 3 is dated January 9, 2014 and sports modem flavor N9005XXUENA2 and CSC version N9005OXXENA5.

Users will be informed on the availability of the update for their smartphones, but they can also check on its availability straight from their devices, through going to Settings > About phone > Software updates.

Furthermore, they can also find the official firmware available for download online, courtesy of SamMobile and Samsung Updates.

Apparently, the official platform upgrade for Samsung’s latest device in the Galaxy Note series features the same version as the one that leaked yesterday.

This suggests that other high-end smartphones in Samsung’s current lineup might also get an upgrade to KitKat in the not too distant future.

A leaked build for the Galaxy S4 was also spotted online and, although only a test firmware version, it hinted at near-final development of an official upgrade for this smartphone.

Samsung hasn’t provided an official announcement on the availability of Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Galaxy Note 3 as of now, but it might do so soon. Info on the update for Galaxy S4 might emerge shortly as well, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
