Last month, South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics officially confirmed plans to make the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system update available for the owners of LG Optimus G devices worldwide, and the company has already started deploying the update in India.

Multiple reports coming from this country confirm that the operating system upgrade’s rollout is well underway, though there is no info on how long it will take for all users to receive it.

The platform update is being delivered both over the air and via LG’s Support tool, and arrives on handsets in the form of a 507.82 MB file (it weighs over 1GB if downloaded via the aforementioned support tool), a recent post on digipassion reads.

LG Optimus G users will receive a notification on the availability of this update, and they are advised to connect the handset to a Wi-Fi network before kicking off the download process.

For those out of the loop, we should note that LG Optimus G has already received the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system in South Korea, and that the update arriving on devices in India brings along the very same features and enhancements.

This means that LG Optimus G users will receive the entire range of new features and security improvements that KitKat was released with, including a UI refresh.

Following the update, they will enjoy white icons in the notification area, various performance improvements, lock screen enhancements, support for wireless printing, and the like.

However, it seems that LG has included various other improvements in the platform update as well, such as updated Music, Notebook, Safety Care, Q Translator, On-Screen Phone, and File Manager applications.

The update also delivers an updated dialer user interface, as well as a refreshed keyboard, and a redesigned weather app, which also boasts new themes.

Other changes in this update include the addition of a Car Home app, a Multi-photo option in the Wallpapers section, so that users can set multiple photos as wallpaper at the same time.

According to the aforementioned news site, the update also brings redesigned System icons and UI, which are now similar to those present on LG G2, while also merging various App Updates applications into single software called Update Center.

Apparently, the update also removes some of the previously available features on the device, such as themes. Moreover, functionality such as Knock code or Double Tap to unlock is missing from the update, it seems.

Most probably, the update will be rolled out to users in India in stages, which means that some of them will have to wait a bit longer for it to arrive. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
