The Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system version is now available for more users out there, as AT&T and Samsung have started to push it to the owners of Galaxy S III handsets on the network of this wireless carrier.

The update will arrive on all Galaxy S III (SGH-i747) models over the air, yet it might take a while before it actually lands on all devices, as it will be rolled out in stages.

“Effective June 18, 2014, AT&T will release Android 4.4.2 software update for the Samsung Galaxy S III (SGH-i747). This update will be made available to customers to download via firmware over the air (FOTA). Wi-Fi is required for update,” Samsung explains.

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the handset brings along a wide range of enhancements, Samsung itself explains in a post on its support website.

Following the update, users will enjoy new Lock Screen Access, which includes the availability of full-screen album art and media controls when listening to music, along with a link to access the camera without unlocking the phone.

Moreover, there is an SMS App Chooser added to the new update (users will be able to choose the default SMS app they like the most), along with restyled Status and Navigation Bars, the release notes unveil.

The AT&T Drive Mode has been changed to DriveMode in this release, and there is also the Beat Music app pre-loaded in the new firmware release, in addition to expanded Emoji Icons.

On top of that, the update brings along support for wireless printing (in Apps > Settings > Connections > More networks > Printing), as well as with suppressed Prevention Information pop-up message.

At the same time, the software update brings copy & paste improvements, support for inline editing in email, and changes to the Phone/Dialer user interface, complemented by new looks for the Settings menu, Bluetooth and keyboard enhancements, and a new Immersive mode.

Other changes in the update include:

- HCE (Host card emulation) Enabled;

- UICC (Universal Integrated Circuit Card ) is set as default;

- GMS apps update (GMS 4.4.2_r2);

- Video player closed captioning Settings > My device > Accessibility > Google subtitles (CC) and Samsung subtitles (CC);

- Unified Location Menu: Settings > More > Location Location Settings is same as Location service in JBP. User can set the Locating method and check the recent location requests.

As mentioned above, the update is being delivered OTA, which means that users will receive a notification when it is available for their devices. They can also check for it manually, by going to Settings > About Phone > Software update.
