The new platform release arrives with build number I317UCUCNE5 attached

More owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note II smartphones out there can now enjoy the features and capabilities that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system has to offer, as wireless carrier AT&T has just started to deploy it for its customers.

The new platform release arrives on Galaxy Note II handsets at the wireless carrier with build number I317UCUCNE5 attached to it.

“Effective June 25, 2014, a software update for the Samsung Galaxy Note II (i317) will be available to AT&T customers. This software package includes and update to KitKat 4.4.2 along with multiple improvements,” Samsung notes on its support website.

The new platform update comes with a nice range of enhancements, among which new features for the lock screen, including the availability of full-screen album art and media controls when listening to music.

On top of that, a camera shortcut was added to the lock screen, which will enable users to easily access the camera application without unlocking the phone.

At the same time, the software update provides users with an improved user experience courtesy of redesigned Status and Navigation Bars, which are now translucent and can sit on top of apps, in addition to bringing along simplified status bar icons.

Following the update, users will also see that all of their SMS and MMS messages are brought together in the same app, where other conversations and video calls are also present. Not to mention that they will be able to select the default messaging app of their choice.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat will also provide Galaxy Note II users with a full-screen immersive mode, which will make visual content, including photos, videos, maps, books, and games, even more appealing.

A brand-new storage access framework was also included in the new software release, making it easier for users to browse and open documents, images, and other files, regardless of their preferred document storage provider.

A great deal of other improvements were also added to the handset as part of this update, such as:

- Consolidated Location Settings – location services are integrated and more detailed by new Location menu; - Prevention Information pop-up message is suppressed; - New platform support for secure NFC-based transactions through Host Card Emulation (HCE); - Video player closed captioning Settings > My device > Accessibility > Google subtitles (CC) and Samsung subtitles (CC); - Can be set sound for Samsung apps (call/message/email/calendar) Setting > my Device > Sound > Samsung applications.

Moreover, Samsung notes that Beats Music is now pre-loaded on the Galaxy Note II, and that more Emoji icons are available for its users. Additionally, the update brings along support for wireless printing over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections.

Users will receive a notification on the availability of Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but some of them might have to wait a few days for it to arrive, as the deployment is performed in stages. However, they can also go to Settings > About phone > Software update to manually check on the new update.
