The update should reach all users in a matter of days

Another Samsung smartphone has started to receive the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system update at wireless carrier Sprint, namely the Galaxy S4 mini.

Both Samsung and Sprint have announced that the update is available for download, and that users will receive it as software version L520VPUABNE3.

The update has started to arrive on Galaxy Mega devices at Sprint too, and it is also rolling out to AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S III now.

As part of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform update, users will receive a nice range of enhancements, including new shortcuts available on the lock screen, as Samsung explains.

For example, full-screen album art and media controls will be displayed on the lock screen when listening to music, and users will also be able to access the camera application without having to unlock their devices.

On top of that, the update will allow owners of the Galaxy S4 mini handsets to select the default application for sending and receiving SMS text messages they like the most.

A series of visual changes have also been included in the update, such as redesigned Status and Navigation Bars, which are now translucent. They can also be set to sit on top of apps and will show simplified status bar icons.

The location settings of the Android platform have seen a series of enhancements in the new update, as location services are now integrated and more detailed by new Location menu.

Moreover, the new software iteration brings along expanded Emoji icons and also offers wireless printing capabilities, over Wi­-Fi and Bluetooth connections.

According to the available release notes, the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update also boasts suppressed prevention Information pop-up message.

Other improvements and fixes have also been implemented in the new platform release, and users will be able to take advantage of them as soon as they install the update.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat is rolling out to Sprint’s Galaxy S4 mini users over the air, and they will receive a notification on their handsets as soon as the update is available for them.

However, the platform refresh will be deployed in stages, which means that some people will have to wait for a few days before seeing it available for their phones.

In the meantime, they can manually check on its availability by going to Settings > About phone > Software updates and hitting the Check now button.

“Software updates may be released in stages and can take several days for delivery. If prompted that an update is available, follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation,” Sprint notes on its support website.
