Mountain View-based Internet giant Google is reportedly getting ready for the launch of a new flavor of the Android operating system, one that might start arriving on devices as Android 4.4.1 KitKat.

The yet unannounced platform release has been mentioned before, in relation to the HTC One Google Play Edition smartphone, but it seems that it has already been spotted on a series of devices out there.

According to a recent post on 9to5google, the Android 4.4.1 platform release has emerged in their server logs, supposedly loaded on both smartphones and tablet PCs.

To be more precise, the news site claims that some people accessed their portal from Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and Nexus 7 devices powered by the new OS flavor.

Furthermore, they note that the requests originated from Santa Clara, California, which would suggest that Google is currently testing the platform internally.

At the same time, a report from Ausdroid unveils that said devices were running under software build KOT49E, and that they appeared in their logs as well.

According to them, their website was accessed from Google-owned Australian IP addresses, supposedly confirming that the Internet giant is testing the update worldwide.

It still remains to be seen what exactly Google plans on packing inside the new platform release. Given its small change in version, we could expect a great deal of fixes and other performance improvements.

However, there’s also the possibility that some new features will be included inside the update, supposing that Google didn’t have enough time to pack them inside the official Android 4.4 KitKat build, though this is only a guess from our part.

There’s no official confirmation on the near arrival of Android 4.4.1, but chances are that Google will make an announcement on it soon, provided that it is indeed preparing an update for its users. Stay tuned for more on this.
