Sony Xperia M is not among the smartphones confirmed by the Japanese company for an Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade. One of the reasons is the fact that the device has yet to receive its promised Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update.

The Xperia M was launched on the market last summer with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box and, if rumors are true, it will soon get an Android 4.3 update.

Even though the initial rumors have claimed that the smartphone will eventually receive an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update, it looks like Sony has decided to jump the phone's software directly to Android 4.3.

Unfortunately, there's no telling whether or not Sony will offer an Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade to Xperia M users, especially that the company has recently confirmed that it will release a KitKat update for its successor, the Xperia M2.

Anyway, until Xperia M could be upgraded to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the device needs to receive the long-awaited Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, which, apparently, is very close to being released.

XperiaBlog reports that French carrier SFR has just approved an Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for Sony Xperia M, which is expected to be pushed live in the coming days.

According to SFR, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware version 15.4.A.0.21, which is the same as the one certified earlier this week at PTCRB, will bring major performance improvements, updated Sony media apps (Album, Mobile and WALKMAN) and Xperia Themes.

Keep in mind that the French carrier's approval is only for the single-SIM version of Xperia M (C1905), so those who own the dual-SIM model might have to wait a bit longer.

Furthermore, we have another information that indicates that the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update release for Sony Xperia M is closer than ever.

It appears that Australian carrier Vodafone has just changed the status of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update from “scheduled for testing” to “testing.”

This will probably take Vodafone around a week, after which Sony should probably start delivering the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean upgrade to Xperia M units.

Assuming that nothing wrong goes during these tests, Vodafone Australia customers who own the Xperia M should be receiving the highly anticipated Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update sometime in early April.

We will keep an eye out for any status changes regarding the upcoming release of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean upgrade for Xperia M, so stay tuned for more details on the matter.
