Non-official port with quite a few issues, but it boots

Samsung has already confirmed that Android 4.0 will arrive to the Galaxy Tab 8.9 in 2012, but this doesn’t seem to be enough for some, so they have started building their own ICS port for this 8.9 incher.

The development effort is still in its infancy, but the XDA hackers have already managed to sort out a great deal of the issues encountered along the way.

However, there are quite a few more things that still don’t work such as Wi-Fi, the camera and there’s also the occasional green flashing screen.

The GPS is also pretty slow since a GPS is not yet supported, but the developers have managed to play Angry Birds on the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and report that “transitions seem to fly.”

You can check out a video of an early version of the port right above this article, but bear in mind that a lot of things have changed since then.
