HTC wanted to do something good for its fans and started to roll out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Sensation and Sensation XE last month.

In fact, HTC was among the first to announce the availability of the update. Unfortunately, only HTC Sensation and Sensation XE owners living in Germany and the Nordic countries were able to upgrade their smartphones to Android 4.0.

However, the folks at GSMArena have been tipped off on the availability of the update in more regions, which might indicate that HTC has started the global rollout of Android 4.0 ICS for Sensation and Sensation XE.

Reports from users living in the UK, France, the Netherlands, and Pakistan confirm the update is now live and ready to be downloaded.

HTC is deploying this major update OTA (over the air), but it’s recommended to use a Wi-Fi connectivity instead of a 3G data network, as the file is about 300MB in size.

Obviously, users should make sure the battery of the smartphone is at least 50% charged. We also recommend doing a backup before installing the update.

For the time being, some issues seem to affect those who upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. An Indian user, proud owner of HTC Sensation XE, claims it has experienced the following problems:

- Sudden call dropping; - Wi-Fi tethering problems; - Unable to transfer files using Bluetooth; - Weak HSDPA network signal; - Huge amount of lags on home screen; - Facebook sync problems.

We’re not sure if these issues are affecting all HTC Sensation XE devices or it’s a region-related problem. HTC Sensation units seem to experience some of these issues as well.

All in all, those who encountered these unexpected problems downgraded back to Android 2.3 Gingerbread until HTC fixes these issues.
