The new release date has yet to be officially confirmed by the carrier

Motorola is one of the few handset makers that did not manage to deliver an Ice Cream Sandwich update for a smartphone. Other important companies like HTC, Samsung and LG have already deployed the Android 4.0 ICS upgrade for at least one of their phones, but not Motorola.

However, the US-based company recently released an Ice Cream Sandwich update for its original Motorola XOOM tablet. Both Wi-Fi and 3G/4G models have been upgraded to Android 4.0 ICS, but it took the company a long time to make it possible.

Even though we originally thought DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX will get their long-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update on May 21, it appears that Verizon and Motorola were not able to deliver as previously expected.

According to CNET, the reason behind this delay is the fact that the carrier needed to replace the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich build already uploaded to its servers with a newer Android 4.0.4 ICS version.

As soon as the update process is successfully completed, the carrier plans to start the rollout of the Android 4.0.4 ICS for Motorola DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX.

The next estimated release date for this hotly anticipated update is June 12, a Big Red official told CNET. As expected, the update will be pushed OTA (over the air) in waves, so DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX owners should start manually checking for an Android 4.0.4 ICS update next week.

Although Verizon has yet to officially confirm the information, at least we now know the reasons behind the slight Android 4.0.4 ICS delay.

For the time being, there are no additional details regarding the rollout of the update for the international version of DROID RAZR, but we expect that Motorola RAZR owners will be able to upgrade their phones soon after the US model.
