Australian wireless carrier Vodafone is gearing up for the release of a new software update for some of its users, and has just announced that some of these packages have already been approved for deployment.

Thus, users of an HTC EVO 3D smartphone should see the Android 4.0.4 platform update landing on their devices in the not too distant future, the carrier announced.

The new OS flavor has already been approved by Vodafone, and it is currently pending roll-out by HTC. The company will offer some more info on the matter as soon as the handset vendor is ready to push out the software.

Additionally, owners of a Sony Xperia arc handset are about to receive the same update as well, the company announced.

They are in a similar situation, since Vodafone has already approved the OS upgrade for its customers, but Sony has yet to decide when the software is ready for roll-out.

Another mobile phone set to be upgraded in the not too distant future is the Nokia N9, which currently runs under MeeGo PR1.2 software.

Nokia has already started to deliver the new MeeGo PR1.3 update for the mobile phone around the world, and Vodafone users should get a taste of it as well.

In a post on its blog detailing the latest changes in software for its devices, Vodafone also notes that updates are expected to land on other smartphones as well, but that software is either expected to arrive in the carrier’s labs shortly, or is in testing at the moment.

“Although you may hear news about updates from around the web and overseas, please be aware that local delivery timelines can differ. This is due to local hardware variants and Australian regulatory requirements,” the carrier notes in the aforementioned blog post.

As soon as the available updates are ready to hit handsets, Vodafone will provide details on the matter. Keep an eye on this space for more on this.
