It’s been only a week since HTC has started to roll out an important maintenance update for the One X, promising to fix loads of bugs and issues that have been plaguing the smartphone since its launch.

Although the update was quietly released, reports coming from users confirmed only unlocked HTC One X devices were able to download and install it.

However, Vodafone Australia customers who purchased the HTC One X will be able to download and install the update as well.

Beginning April 27, the carrier will start the rollout of software version 1.28.862.9, which is only 27MB in size. Keep in mind that this update is only available for HTC One X handsets sold by Vodafone Australia.

Make sure the phone’s battery is at least 50% charged and back up all sensitive data stored on the device prior to installing the update.

Even though the update will keep the Android operating system to version 4.0.3, the software version will be bumped to 1.28.862.9.

Aside from this obvious change, the following improvements and bug fixes have been included:

- Enhanced system stability; - Fixes to WiFi, GPS and USB interface to improve battery performance; - Improved camera support for Instagram; - Intermittent display noise issue fixed; - Slow motion and camera power usage improvement; - Signal indicator improvement; - USB to PC detection, tethering and internet pass-through fix; - Wi-Fi indicator fix.

The update is rolled out OTA (over the air), in stages, so it might take a while until it reaches all HTC One X units. Those who have yet to be notified on the update can manually check for it by going to Settings / About / Software Updates / Check Now.

It is also worth mentioning that while the update is available free of charge, Vodafone customers who choose to download it over 3G the data will be not be deducted from their monthly allowance.
