It appears that Sprint plans to roll-out the highly-anticipated Gingerbread upgrade for the HTC EVO 4G in the next few days.

According to the guys over at Engadget, the carrier has in schedule the deployment of the 4.22.651.2 software update, which contains Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), as well as several fixes.

The update will be pushed OTA (over-the-air) to all Sprint HTC EVO 4G device starting June 6th, but those impatient can manually check for the update as earlier as June 3rd.

To manually update the EVO 4G simply go to Menu / Settings / System Updates / HTC Software / Check Now and click OK, as soon as the update is found.

After the download is finished, the phone will reboot and the installation process will start. This is likely to take about 10 minutes to complete.

To check the software number after the update users should go to Menu / Settings / About Phone / Software information.

In addition to the Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the 4.22.651.2 software update includes the fixes for the following issues:

- SMS intermittently sent to wrong and seemingly wrong contact; - “Me” instead of “Yo” in SMS thread conversations when set to Spanish; - Multiple Gmail accounts no longer sync after 2.2 update; - Unable to charge a battery that has reached a state of discharge well beyond the low battery/power down threshold.

Those who are patient enough to wait until Sunday will probably receive a notification on their EVO 4G smartphones as soon as the update is ready for download and installation.

However, not all EVO 4G owners might receive it on June 6, as the carrier and Google are likely to push the software update in waves, though this is not mentioned in the internal memo leaked recently.

The news is also confirmed by a screenshot taken from the carrier's May/June calendar, which includes the HTC EVO 4G update to 4.22.651.2 on June 6.
