That didn't take long. Google announced the release of its new Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on Monday, and the first custom cooked ROMs for various mobile phones out there already started to emerge.

For the time being, however, things are only in their very early stages, and the ports do not offer too much, which means that only those interested in giving a helpful hand to the development process should give them a try.

Various threads over at XDA-Developers point at the upcoming availability of these solutions for handsets like the HTC DROID Eris, the HTC EVO 4G, or the Wildfire.

As stated above, things are only in their very early stages of development, and, even if the first versions of the ROMs were released, there's not much that one would be able to do with them.

Since the modding community moves quite faster with the development of these solutions, it might not be too long before some usable and stable solutions are made available for download.

In the meantime, we can only salute the initiative, especially since it was unveiled only a few hours after the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system was launched officially.

Those users who are not familiar with what installing one of these ROMs on their devices is all about should know that they need would have to root their devices before being able to get one such solution up and running.

Of course, that would immediately void warranty, and they should stay away from these unofficial solutions to make sure that nothing happens with their devices.

However, since these custom ROMs seem much more appealing than the official ones at certain times, we're pretty sure that many users would give them a try.

For the time being, they would have to wait for these ROMs to evolve to more usable solutions. You can learn more on the development process of these Andorid 2.3 ROMs here, here, and here, for DROID Eris, EVO 4G, and Wildfire, respectively.
